Good morning, my Princeton people. Donuts. Call me old fashioned, but if someone were to open a donut shop in town, I’m pretty sure my family would personally keep them in business. It would be game over. I would probably have a “Donut of the Day” section in here.

Here are some name suggestions:

Doughy Jo-Jo's Ring Barn
The Chunky Dunkr
Fluffy Puff's Donutatorium
Wizzle's Whirly Swirl Donut Parlor
Gravy Dave's Glaze Maze
The Glazie-Crazie Factory
Bingo Bongo's Sweet Rings of Wonder
Glorp's Galactic Donut Hub

I’ve done my part. Let’s get to it.

I’d like to offer a huge “thank you” to sharp-eyed locals Brendan Coughlin and Ron Imsland. Stay tuned!

  • KWQC: A hit-and-run incident occurred in Bureau County, just before 7 p.m., involving a white SUV that struck a resident on their bicycle. An off-duty officer provided assistance to the victim, and the SUV is reported to have a damaged or missing mirror. Authorities are seeking information from the public and advise contacting the Ladd or Peru Police Departments or Bureau County Sheriff if anyone has details.

Allergy Forecast:

From Monday to Wednesday, ragweed pollen levels are expected to be high. This means that individuals sensitive to ragweed pollen may experience allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, or itchy eyes during these days. It's advisable to limit outdoor activities or take necessary precautions if you are allergic to ragweed pollen.

The Change of the Seasons:

Terry Swails: September 1st marks the start of meteorological fall, which is based on temperature trends, while astronomical fall begins with the equinox on September 22nd. Meteorological seasons are divided into three-month periods, with fall running from September through November. Throughout September, temperatures are expected to average in the upper 70s early in the month and near 70 by the end. We lose about 2 minutes and 45 seconds of daylight each day, leading to cooler conditions and the onset of frost in late September or early October.

As temperatures drop and days shorten, the green pigment chlorophyll in leaves diminishes, revealing other pigments. Carotenoids produce yellow and orange colors, while anthocyanins create red and purple hues, influenced by cooler weather and sugar concentration in the leaves. The peak time for fall foliage varies, occurring from late September to early November. This year's forecast suggests near or above-normal temperatures for much of the month, delaying the onset of freezing conditions.
