š»BEARS - SAINTS PREVIEW
This week, the New Orleans Saints (1ā5) travel to Soldier Field to take on the Chicago Bears (3ā2) on Sunday, October 19 at 12:00āÆp.m. CT.
Recent Form & Storylines
New Orleans comes in off a 25ā19 loss to New England, where they converted just one of two red zone trips into a touchdown and relied heavily on kicker Blake Grupe. The Saintsā red zone efficiency continues to be a major concern, ranking 29th in the league. Meanwhile, Chicago eked out a 25ā24 win in Washington via a walk-off field goal by Jake Moody. That victory gives the Bears their third straight win and sets up a chance to push their streak to four.
A subplot adds spice to the matchup: Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen spent several seasons as New Orleansā head coach and will be pitted against his former team.
Matchups & Key Players
DāAndre Swift (Bears): He broke out in Week 6 with 108 rushing yards on 14 carries and turned a short pass into a 55-yard touchdown. If Swift can continue to pound the Saintsā front, Chicagoās offense will have balance.
Spencer Rattler / Taysom Hill (Saints): Rattlerās recent performance (20/26, 227 yards vs. New England) was efficient but lacked end-zone punch. Hill, recovering from injury, offers a change-of-pace spark, especially in short-yardage and gadget usage.
Offensive Line / Pass Rush: Bearsā left tackle Theo Benedet will try to hold his own against Saints defenders Carl Granderson and Cameron Jordan. Granderson has 4.5 sacks so far; Jordanās presence and experience are always dangerous.
Turnover Game: Chicago leads the NFL in turnover margin (+8) and has forced 12 takeaways already. The Saints have been more careful with the ball (only 4 turnovers on the season) but still possess little room for error.
Prediction & Keys to Victory
The Bears come in as 5.5-point favorites. With momentum behind them and a defense that thrives on turnovers, Chicago holds the edge. For New Orleans to pull the upset, theyāll need to:
Succeed in the red zone (turn opportunities into touchdowns, not field goals)
Keep the ball out of Bearsā hands (limit turnovers)
Disrupt Swift and force Chicago into more one-dimensional offense
Given whatās on paper and recent performances, Chicago is the safer bet to win at home ā but the Saintsā defense and occasional gadget deployment from Hill could keep it close.
