What You Should Know

  • BCR: “The city of Princeton is projecting a decrease in its property tax rate but that will not mean a savings on most property tax bills because of increased assessed values.”

  • The Light Up Princeton holiday contest deadline is December 11th.

  • Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News did a feature on Elizabeth Pratt and the Royal Supermart in Sheffield, Illinois.

  • Princeton farmer Evan Hultine was elected vice president of the Illinois Farm Bureau.

  • Ryder, a 6 year-old boy from Princeton, is battling cancer. He has just finished back-to-back chemotherapy treatments in Peoria and, in a couple weeks, Ryder and his mother will travel to St. Jude in Tennessee for more extensive treatment. Find out more of his story and help financially here.

Local Music

  • Princeton High School’s annual Christmas Choir Concert is Monday, December 11th, at 7pm in the auditorium.

  • Logan Junior High Holiday Concerts: 5th Grade Band at 6:30, Thursday, Dec. 14th at PHS Auditorium. 6-8th Grade Choir and Band at 6:30, Monday, December 18th.

  • Friday, December 15th, Judy Ernst will play seasonal favorites on accordion at the Library at 2:30. At 4pm, pianist Kathy Allen and her students will play as well.

  • On Friday, December 15th, Princeton Tourism presents Christmas Wizards: A Tribute to Trans-Siberian Orchestra. This will be an incredible night of Christmas music and lights that's sure to put you and your family in the holiday spirit. 7pm-9pm @ Princeton High School. Buy tickets here.

  • The Princeton Bible Church Choir presents a Christmas musical, “He Started the Whole World Singing” by Bill and Gloria Gaither on Saturday, December 16 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, December 17 at 10:15 am. in the church auditorium.

  • Drew Sheafor and Audrey Simes will be performing at Barrel Society on December 16th.

Places to Go

  • The “Home for the Holidays” Christmas Craft & Vendor Show & Gift Sale opens today from 9am-2pm at the Bureau County Fair Grounds. There are over 160 tables of crafts to look at.

  • The “Home for the Holidays” Christmas Light Drive Thru at the Bureau County Fairgrounds continues today and tomorrow from 5-8pm.

  • The Christmastime in the Valley Walk in Tiskilwa is today from 10am-1pm.

    • St. Mary’s Hall: Local Vendors and Crafters. Alpacas on the front lawn.

    • Tiskilwa Community Church: Visit from Santa Claus. Cookies and coffee, baked goods, rugs, vanilla, and knives for sale. Book signing and sale of “Cowgirl Prayers.”

    • Tiskilwa Library: Crafts for Kids. Toy donation drop.

    • Gallery on Galena: Military and country school displays.

    • Museum on Main: Petting Zoo.

    • MD Hardwood Floors: Camera collection on display and treats.

    • Zigs Station: Coffee and a Give-a-way.

    • Wood Carvings at Belle’s Chip Schopp.

    • Scott Bickett’s Christmas Music.

  • A Benefit will take place at the Hawg House Saloon today at 4pm for Melody Peach. Melody was diagnosed with Breast cancer on July 28, 2022. $20 a ticket, includes a Pulled Pork Dinner served from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Music provided by 7 Miles South from 4 p.m.-8:00 p.m. They will also have a silent auction and raffle tickets for sale. Winners will be announced at 8:30 p.m. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

  • Apollo Theater is hosting a Polar Express Pajama Party, today at 12pm. Doors open at 11:30am. Meet Santa and the Conductor. Popcorn, candy, and drink are included in the $5 ticket.

  • In support of Erin and the Matlick family, Logan Jr. High will be hosting a "Fight Like Erin" night during their boys basketball games on Tuesday, December 12th. The 6th grade game will tip off at 4:30 pm at Logan Jr High, and 7th grade will tip off at 6:00 pm at Princeton High School (8th grade game will follow). There will be a lot of fun at this event, and multiple ways to show support for the Matlick family — including a silent auction, 50/50, and much more.

  • From the Princeton Fire Department: SANTA CLAUS IS MAKING A SPECIAL TRIP TO THE FIREHOUSE! He’s invited all the kids to visit so mark your calendars for Friday, December 15th from 6 P.M. - 7 P.M.
