  • Weather service surveyors have confirmed a very brief tornado touchdown in Bureau County last Friday.

  • The 2024 Old Wheels Show will take place on Saturday, June 15 from 10 AM to 2 PM at the First Lutheran Church parking lot in Princeton, Illinois. The event features antique, classic, and customized cars, food, music, entertainment for kids, and a bake sale starting at 10 AM. Dedicated to the memory of Glenn Allen, the show supports River Bend Food distributions in Bureau County, and offers free registration, dash plaques, and giveaways.

  • The Bureau County Senior Citizens Association invites everyone to Lunch in the Park on May 31st from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM (or until sold out). The menu includes ribeye sandwiches, chicken breast sandwiches, pork chop sandwiches, hot dogs, chips, and drinks. Drive-thru and carry-out options are available; attendees can call ahead at 815-303-6374 to have their orders ready. All proceeds from this event will support the Bureau County Senior Center.

  • On June 1st, from 10am to 12pm, Chelsea Gives Back is hosting a food drive for The Free Little Pantry at the First Presbyterian Church in Princeton. Community members are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to support this worthy cause. For those unable to attend in person, donations can be made directly to the food pantry through the provided link. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need.   • The Bureau County Food Pantry, in collaboration with the Old Wheels Club and 1st Lutheran Church, is organizing a Mobile Food Pantry event at the Bureau County Fairgrounds, located at 811 W. Peru St. This community-driven event is scheduled for Thursday, June 27th, with registration commencing at 9:15 a.m. and the distribution of food beginning promptly at 10:00 a.m. To facilitate a smooth and efficient distribution process, participants are encouraged to bring laundry baskets for collecting food items. The entire distribution process is expected to take up to two hours and will be conducted indoors, ensuring comfort and accessibility for all attendees. The organizers emphasize the importance of not arriving more than 30 minutes before the distribution begins to help manage the flow of participants. This event is made possible by the tireless efforts of volunteers, and the organizers express their deep gratitude for their contributions. This initiative aims to support the local community by providing essential food supplies to those in need.

💼PRINCETON BUSINESSES

  • The Princeton Area Chamber of Commerce wants you to know about their Gift Card Program, with cards available in $5, $10, and $20 increments, purchasable at the Chamber office inside the Prouty-Zearing Community Building. In 2023 alone, $42,475 worth of these cards were bought, significantly supporting local businesses. These cards, which never expire, are touted as ideal for last-minute gifts and ensure that spending remains within the local community.

  • The Downtown Pub & Grill is hosting the Artistry of Visionaries Art Exhibit today from 6-8 PM. Attendees can enjoy hors-d'oeuvres and engage in conversation with the artists, with free admission.

  • Chapel Hill Golf Course is hosting a special scramble event this Friday, with tee off at 5:30 PM, to benefit the Loftus family. All proceeds from the event will go towards helping with medical expenses following the loss of their friend, Jeff Loftus. Those unable to attend are encouraged to consider donating to support the family. This event is a chance for the community to come together, remember Jeff, and provide much-needed assistance to his loved ones.

  • Dessert Your Loved Ones by business owner Julie Pinter is offering unique Father's Day cookie sets, featuring themes like tools, fishing, and barbecue, available for $20 per set if ordered by June 1st for pickup on the Saturday before Father’s Day, with designs packaged in specially themed boxes on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Barrel Society is hosting June Trivia Nights on Tuesday, June 4th, and Tuesday, June 25th, both starting at 7 PM. The events will take place at the Philly Factory, and a food truck will be available on both nights.

  • Join Cafe Grace for a special Father's Day Buffet featuring a delicious selection including scrambled eggs, ham & cheese scramble, bacon, sausage, caramel pecan French toast, and more.   • A garage sale will be held at 11 N Euclid on Thursday from 10am to 4pm, and Friday from 10am to 4pm. Items for sale include Pampered Chef cooking tools, home decor, toys, books for all ages, clothing, brand new shoes, and more. Don't miss out on a variety of items including golf clubs, an electric cooler, a refrigerator, and a car transporting dolly. Be sure to visit the lemonade and craft stand during your visit!

  • More in Bureau County is hosting a county-wide garage sale event on Father's Day weekend, June 14 and 15. This year, the event extends beyond its traditional Route 34 location, inviting the entire community to participate. 🎨ART ON THE LAWN

The Prairie Arts Council invites you to a delightful day at the "Art on the Lawn" event on June 8th from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Prairie Arts Center Lawn. Immerse yourself in the creativity and talent of local artists as they showcase their work in an open-air setting. Enjoy Didough's Pretzels and explore unique pieces of art to take home. Featured artists include Mike Vaughn, Sue Garvin, Collette Yelm, Ava Morton, Mary LaFrenz, Mark Warren, Judith Gosse, Meadows on Main, and more.   • Farmer Smoked BBQ food truck will be at Rotary Park today from 11 AM to 1 PM. They will also be at Princeton Shell on Friday for lunch from 11 AM to 1 PM, and back at Rotary Park on Saturday for Shrimp Fest.

  • Princeton Elementary School District 115 is looking for classroom paraprofessionals to join the team at Douglas Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year.
