• Here’s a summary of the latest KWQC news article on Monterey Mushrooms factory closure: The Monterey Mushrooms factory, a major employer in Bureau Co., announced its closure in January, impacting hundreds of workers, particularly in the small town of DePue. Teachers express concern for students, as many households depend on both parents working at the factory. The village president, Daniel Hoffert, is committed to helping terminated employees and preventing a mass exodus from DePue, organizing a job fair and seeking solutions. Despite facing previous closures, losing the mushroom factory poses economic challenges, and uncertainties about the factory's future remain, though workers have been offered severance and unemployment benefits.

• Chelsea’s 3rd Annual Secret Santa Givings Fundraiser begins today. Paisano’s Ristorante will be donating $2.00 per pizza sold to help Chelsea give back to the community.

• On Friday, December 15th, Princeton Tourism presents Christmas Wizards: A Tribute to Trans-Siberian Orchestra. This will be an incredible night of Christmas music and lights that's sure to put you and your family in the holiday spirit. 7pm-9pm @ Princeton High School. Buy tickets here.

> Friday, November 17th

• Annual Elf Hunt. Participants can find the elf hunt submission sheets starting Wednesday, November 15th in the Bureau County Republican as well as at the Prouty Building.

• Find the Lost Keys with Landmark Realty of Illinois LLC.

• The Festival 56 box office opens.

> Saturday, November 18th

• Friends of Strays Bake Sale: Prouty-Zearing Community Building from 8:00 am-4:00 pm.

• Bureau County Christmas for Kids will hold another toy drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Heartland Bank, located at 606 S. Main St. in Princeton (BCR).

• Model Train Fair & Farm Toy Show: Bureau County Fair From 9:00am-3:00 pm.

• Christkindl Markt: Open Prairie Church from 9:30 am-3:30 pm.

• Craft Show & Bake Sale: Park Tavern from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.

• Paint Pottery with The Knack: Saturday or Sunday of Christmas Walk Weekend.

• Holiday Card Design Contest Gallery Show at the Prairie Arts Council.

• Barbershop Chorus & Bureau County Chorus on Main: Prouty-Zearing Community Building from 11:00 am-2:00 pm.

• Visit Santa & Mrs. Claus on Main Street: Christmas Cookies & Hot Chocolate will be served.

• The Praise & Shine Quartet: Prairie Arts Council starting at 3:00 pm.

• Make reindeer food with the Bureau County Farm Bureau.

• Stop by for s’mores compliments of the Bureau County Senior Center.

• Enjoy horse drawn carriage rides compliments of Heartland Bank and Trust Company on both North & South Main Street.

• Visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus in the Prouty-Zearing Community Building. Christmas Cookies & Hot Chocolate will be served. Fresh Greenery pre-orders available for pick up. Limited quantities of fresh greens will be available for purchase. First come, first serve.

• Make reindeer food with the Bureau County Farm Bureau.

• The trolley will be on Historic Main Street for all the festivities.
