  • With the start of the school year, safety at school crossings is more crucial than ever. Crossing guards urge us to slow down and be vigilant in school zones, where children may be crossing streets. Parents and students should also take extra care, using designated crosswalks and following all crossing guard instructions.

  • Correction: I messed up the Homestead Festival’s Beta Sigma Phi Arts & Craft Show times in Saturday’s newsletter. Sorry about this. The correct times are from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, September 7th, and from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sunday the 8th.

  • Join the monthly Music Jam at the Princeton Public Library on Wednesday, August 14th, at 5:30 PM, where participants can bring their instrument, voice, or enthusiasm for a night of music and connection. On Saturday, August 17th, from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM, attend the free antique appraisal event and program, where you can have your personal treasures appraised and learn from experts.   • The Bureau County Farm Bureau is offering preventive health screenings on August 16th, from 6 AM to 9 AM. Members can get a comprehensive blood draw and blood pressure check for $100, which includes tests like the Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, Lipid Panel, and Complete Blood Count. Additional screenings available for $25 each include PSA, TSH, Hemoglobin A1C, Testosterone, Vitamin D, and CRP. These screenings are an affordable way to catch potential health issues early, such as heart disease and diabetes. 🏃THE UNDERGROUND 5K

The 31st Annual Underground Railroad 5k will be held on Saturday, September 7th, beginning and ending at the Bureau County Metro Center.

The event schedule includes registration and packet pick-up at 7:00 AM, the Kiddie Fun Run at 8:00 AM, and the 5k race at 8:30 AM. Entry fees are $25 if registered by August 9, and $30 afterward, with a $300 fee for corporate teams of up to 20 participants.

T-shirts are guaranteed for all pre-registered participants, with limited availability on race day. Awards will be given to the overall male and female winners, top Princeton male and female, and the top three finishers in each age division. Kids Klub is a non-denominational Christian children’s ministry, successfully teaching children’s ministry for over 70 years in local communities.

The Bureau County Farm Bureau is hosting a "Quick, Healthy, Meals on the Go" class on Wednesday, August 14th, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. This class, led by Illinois Extension Nutrition and Wellness Educator Susan Glassman, will focus on creating fast, nutritious meals using locally sourced ingredients. Participants will receive take-home recipes and have the chance to make a jar of pickled vegetables to bring home. The class is designed for busy individuals who need quick meal ideas for school, work, or the field.
