⛹🏻♂️PRINCETON RALLIES PAST BYRON TO ADVANCE TO SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Princeton overcame a slow start to defeat Byron 46-42 in the sectional semifinals at Marengo High School, securing a spot in tonights sectional championship against Rock Falls.
Byron jumped out to an early lead, forcing Princeton to take a timeout down 5-0 with 4:41 left in the first quarter. The Tigers struggled offensively, going scoreless until Luke Smith knocked down a three-pointer with 2:23 remaining. By the end of the first quarter, Princeton trailed 11-5, shooting just 2-for-9 from the field with five turnovers.
Byron maintained control in the second quarter, leading 16-11 with 2:09 left before halftime. Princeton fought to close the gap but still trailed 18-14 at the break.
In the third quarter, Byron extended its lead to 33-28. However, Princeton turned up the defensive intensity in the final period. A crucial eight-minute scoring drought for Byron allowed Princeton to take a 38-35 lead with three minutes left in the game.
With just 12 seconds remaining, Jayden Fulkerson capitalized on a fast-break layup off a pass from Luke Smith, putting Princeton ahead 44-41. Princeton sealed the win at the free-throw line, closing out the game with a 46-42 victory.
Byron finishes the season with a record of 21-10. Princeton (21-12) will face Rock Falls in the sectional championship this evening at 7:00 p.m. in Marengo.

🌪️TORNADO SEASON IS ON THE WAY
Tornadoes are a real threat this time of year, and while you can’t control the weather, you can do a few simple things to stay safe. You don’t need to build a bunker or stockpile supplies like a doomsday prepper, but a little preparation can make a big difference when a storm hits.
Pay Attention to the Weather
Tornadoes can form fast, so staying aware is key. If the sky looks dark and eerie, or you hear that unmistakable siren, take it seriously. A tornado watch means conditions are right for a tornado, so keep an eye on the forecast. A tornado warning means a tornado has been spotted or detected on radar—this is when you take cover immediately.
A weather app with alerts turned on is a must. A NOAA weather radio is great too, but realistically, most people rely on their phones. Just make sure your phone is charged if storms are in the forecast.
Know Where to Go
If a tornado warning is issued, don’t waste time debating where to go. Basements are best, but if you don’t have one, get to an interior room or bathroom on the lowest floor. Put as many walls between you and the outside as possible, and avoid windows.
Mobile homes are not safe in a tornado. If you live in one, have a plan for where to go, whether it’s a neighbor’s house, a nearby shelter, or even lying in a low ditch if you’re out of time.
A Few Things to Have Ready
You don’t need a full survival kit, but having a few essentials on hand can help:
Shoes – You don’t want to walk through debris barefoot if your house takes damage.
Flashlight – Power outages happen, and using your phone’s battery for light isn’t ideal.
Phone charger – A portable charger is great, but even just keeping your phone charged before storms can help.
Helmet or blanket – If you have time, cover your head to protect from flying debris.
What to Do During a Tornado
Take cover immediately if a warning is issued—don’t wait to see the tornado first.
Get as low as possible and cover your head.
Stay inside until the danger passes—many people get hurt by coming out too soon.
After the Storm
Check on family and neighbors if it’s safe.
Watch out for hazards like downed power lines or gas leaks.
Don’t go sightseeing—emergency crews need space to work.
Tornadoes are weird and unpredictable, but a little common sense and preparation can go a long way. You don’t have to be a weather expert—just stay informed and have a plan.

“Contrary to what most people say, the most dangerous animal in the world is not the lion or the tiger or even the elephant. It's a shark riding on an elephant's back, just trampling and eating everything they see."
