The quake was located approximately 25 minutes away from Princeton, Illinois, and had a depth of about 4.6 kilometers below the surface. Despite traveling for about 500 miles, little damage is expected due to the relatively shallow depth, with no reports of damage or widespread power outages in the region. Here’s a video on YouTube from an Earlville resident (KWQC).
The iconic Red-Covered Bridge north of Princeton sustained damage on Thursday morning when a truck collided with it. The incident occurred as the truck driver miscalculated the bridge's clearance, resulting in debris scattered around the area. Emergency responders from the Illinois State Police and the Bureau County Sheriff's office assessed the damage, and a wrecker was summoned to clear the remains of the vehicle (WLPO). Here’s a drone fly-through video from WQAD, and a documentary on YouTube. The offending Company, Wynn Logistics, put out this statement regarding the incident.

Some Princeton History
Princeton originated in the early 1830s as a settlement for the Hampshire Colony Congregational Church, later evolving into a vital stop for the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad in the 1850s. Abraham Lincoln visited Princeton in 1854, delivering a well-attended speech in Bryant Woods on the Fourth of July. Bryant Woods, named after the Bryant brothers – Cyrus, Arthur, and John Howard – who settled in Princeton in 1832, played a significant role in the town's early development. John Howard Bryant, known as the "Farmer Poet," was an influential figure, serving as an editor, political figure, and author.
One of John Howard Bryant's close associates was abolitionist Owen Lovejoy, who relocated to Princeton in 1838 after his brother's murder. Lovejoy, the pastor of the Congregational Church from 1838 to 1856, passionately advocated against slavery. Both Bryant and Lovejoy's homes became havens on the Underground Railroad. Lovejoy's residence attained National Historic Landmark status in 1997 and currently functions as a museum, preserving its connection to the abolitionist movement.
